Education, Knowledge and Science in Frankenstein

Here is a short article from filmschoolrejects.com about the scientific experiments that may have provided some of the inspiration for Frankenstein.

Growing up with Frankenstein

As a part of Norway’s annual series of “Research Days” (Forskningsdagane) which this year focuses on the topic of “Growing up” (oppvekst), members of the Frankenstein2018 project have recorded a series of short audio files and videos discussing this topic in Mary Shelley’s novel and some of its adaptations.

In the first of these talks, Siv Frøydis Berg (Nasjonalbiblioteket i Oslo) discusses monsterets dannelsereise.

In the next video Timothy Saunders (Volda University College) discusses how the failure of the three narrators of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to integrate into society – Captain Walton, Victor Frankenstein and the being Frankenstein creates – is due to a considerable degree to the manner in which each of them has “grown up.”

In this final video, Svenn-Arve Myklebost (Volda University College) addresses the question “Kven er Frankenstein, no igjen?”
